Neuropsychology

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

The Neuropsychology SIG is a national group of clinicians and scientists whose mission is to facilitate collaboration on projects to improve our understanding and care of children with the neuropsychological consequences associated with epilepsy. The group is multidisciplinary including neuropsychologists, psychologists, research coordinators, statisticians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and data scientists across all levels of training and expertise.

Madison M. Berl, PhD

  • Madison M. Berl is Associate Chief and Director of Research for the Neuropsychology Division at Children’s National Hospital, Washington, DC.

    She completed her PhD in clinical psychology at George Mason University, clinical internship at Kennedy Krieger Institute, and neuropsychology fellowship at Children’s National Hospital. She also serves in several organizations including PERC, American Epilepsy Society, International League Against Epilepsy, International Neuropsychology Society, Hope for Hypothalamic Hamartoma, and The Inchstone Project.

    Her clinical and research interests include the associated neuropsychological consequences of epilepsy including the natural history and change with intervention using neuroimaging and neuropsychological studies. She is principal investigator for the neuropsychology outcomes for the Epilepsy Surgery Database – a collaboration of multiple US pediatric epilepsy centers collecting data on children evaluated prior to and following epilepsy surgery.

Kristina Patrick, PhD, ABPP, BCBA

  • Kristina Patrick, PhD, ABPP, BCBA is the Director of Neuropsychology at Seattle Children's Hospital and an Associate Professor of Neurology at University of Washington School of Medicine. She is board certified in clinical neuropsychology with subspecialty certification in pediatric neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. She also serves as a professional advisory board member for the Epilepsy Foundation of Washington State. 

    Dr. Patrick’s primary clinical and research interests are in pediatric epilepsy with a focus on improving functional outcomes and access to high-quality efficient and cost-effective neuropsychological care. Dr. Patrick is involved in several multi-center clinical research studies including the PERC epilepsy surgery database collaborative. Dr. Patrick and Dr. Madison Berl are currently editing a book entitled Neuropsychological Profiles in Pediatric Epilepsy: Evaluation, Treatment, and Multicultural Considerations, which will be published through Oxford University Press.
